TOPICS IN EMERGENCY & CRITICAL CARE MEDICINE / CRITICAL CARE TECHNIQUES LAB
This continuing education seminar will have two components. The first half will be emergency and critical care lectures and case presentations.
The topics covered will include shock, respiratory emergencies and endocrine emergencies. The second half will be a 3 hour hands on wet lab using
canine cadavers and will include techniques such as nasal oxygen catheter placement, chest drain placement, tracheostomy and intraosseous catheter
placement. Instructors will include the faculty and residents of the Emergency and Critical Care Section at NCSU-VTH. The morning lecture sessions
will be unlimited, but the afternoon lab will be limited to 24 participants.
This course offers four (4) hours of CVME for veterinarians and veterinary technicans for the morning lectures, and four (4) hours for the lab.
The lab portion is limited to veterinarians only. Registration for lectures is a pre-requisite for registration in the lab.

K-9 Down - Life-saving emergency training to protect working K-9s.
K-9 Down is a highly specialized program designed for professional working dog handlers and emergency rescue personnel - anyone who may
respond to canine health emergencies in the field. The course is tailored for police officers, firefighters, medics, search and rescue teams,
military dog handlers or other canine handlers with specialized training. The course is two days in length. A series of lectures are
presented the first day on topics ranging from the normal canine physical exam to toxicities and heat exhaustion. On the second day, the
group is divided and assigned to one of two half-day sessions, which offer hands-on training in small group sessions.

Invertebrate Medicine 2010
Invertebrate animals comprise 97% of the animal kingdom, yet they are underrepresented in the typical veterinary curriculum. This course will introduce the veterinarian, veterinary student, professional aquarist/curator, or serious hobbyist to the anatomy, physiology, natural history, and disease problems of the more important invertebrate groups: sponges, corals, mollusks, annelids, crustaceans, echinoderms, and arachnids.
